about satra
The Safety and Technical Rescue Association (SATRA) was established in 1990 to make emergency response a matter of ability, rather than a budget question.

As a non-profit organization, SATRA is governed by a board of directors managed by the CEO, COO, and Director of Training. SATRA provides training and organizational support for local, state and international search and rescue teams through SATRA's training group. SATRA has established response teams in Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Team members are trained on rope rescue, confined space, wilderness and disaster rescue, hazardous materials management, medical training, water search, incident command, canine first aid, public information circulation, search management techniques, and helicopter and flight safety; as well as building collapse, trench, ice, and silo rescue. All teams train to NFPA and OSHA standards. Each member is required to attend continuing education within their specialized field.

SATRA conducts educational programs for schools, companies, community organizations, and public safety professionals. SATRA maintains mutual aid agreements with community fire safety departments to provide first responder training and response, as needed.

SATRA is accredited by the National Professional Qualifications Board.

Civil Affairs Division
Civil Affairs Division
As search and rescue (SAR) efforts have been increasingly linked to the larger complexities of Disaster Management, more demands are placed on teams in the field for traditional non-SAR activities.

The goal of the Civil Affairs Division is to provide quality support to the Search and Rescue components through information gathering, coordination, and dissemination. The Civil Affairs Division provides complementary SAR activities such as logistics, weather analysis, incident support, communications, IT support, psychological support, emergency management, interface with VOAD groups, and public information.

Civil Affairs plays a vital role in EOC coordination, political and cultural awareness, team security and other essential functions to the SAR effort.
