NPQB Technical Rescue Certification Courses
TR2000 Structural Collapse Rescue Level Two (Technician): 96 hours
This Class will teach rescuers how to safely respond to structural collapse and to rescue victims trapped by collapse. The Class will be geared toward light, medium, and heavy structural collapses and discuss topics such as cribbing, marking systems, shoring, lifting and moving, breaching and breaking and other methods as per NFPA 1006. Course includes level one and Certification testing.

TR2001 Trench Rescue Level Two (Technician): 56 hours
A comprehensive Class designed to be compliant with NFPA 1006 and OSHA requirements. A comprehensive Class that incorporates hands on training and skill stations to provide the student with an understanding of trench rescue techniques and the equipment associated with safe practices of trench rescue. The Class will also address proper operational procedures and the use of specialized equipment. A significant emphasis will be placed on safety for both the rescuer and victim(s). This Class meets or exceeds NFPA and OSHA requirements. The student will be able to describe the hazards, classifications, equipment and procedures for trench rescue from Memory without assistance. The student will complete a written examination and pass/fail practical skill stations. Course includes level one and Certification testing.

Emergency Response
TR100 Technical Rescue Awareness: 16 hours
An introduction to the field of Search and Rescue with analysis of various aspects of Search and Rescue work and how they tie together. designed to be compliant with NFPA 1670 and OSHA requirements. This course is a recommended course for personnel interested in pursuing further education in Search and Rescue.

TR102 Introduction to Public Information Officer: 8 hours
Class designed to educate the emergency responder on the role of the PIO and a basic introduction into Information Flow Management, Interaction with the Media and methods and practice of interview skills.

TR103 Boat Operations: 8 hours
A one day introduction into the use of boats in search operations and correct methods of search structure in boat environments.

TR104 Accountability for Emergency Response: 8 hours
This Class will teach tracking of personnel and equipment using various methods and technology to be used during an emergency response situation. Students will review proper procedures, SOPs, and effective secondary methods to supplement established accountability methods.

TR105 Building Construction Theory for Building Collapse Response: 8 hours
A discussion of various building construction methods for a proper understanding of rescue response to building collapse. The discussion will include inherent problems related to particular building types and suggested methods for safe operations in collapse response operations.

TR106 Helicopter Operations: 8 hours
Class designed to familiarize responders to safe operations around helicopters and the role of the helicopter in Search and Rescue. The class will teach landing zone operations as well as discuss limitations of helicopters in response to emergencies.

TR107 Navigation: 8 hours
Students will be taught basic navigation and map reading techniques, and basic safety considerations when working in unfamiliar terrain and locations.

TR108 Scent Theory: 8 hours
An introduction to scent theory and how canine’s olfactory senses are used in Search and Rescue. Discussion will include details on scent, atmospheric conditions and their relations to scent movement, and other topics related to scent theory.

TR109 Transportation Stabilization: 16 hours
Classroom and practical teaching methods to stabilize various transportation equipment. Class will discuss critical angles, lifting techniques, and the use of specialized stabilization resources as well as other topics related to the stabilization of transportation machinery in a technical rescue environment.

TR110 Incident Command: 16 hours
This class will discuss the incident management system and the use of SOPs to manage an emergency response incident. The class will delve in to management skills, different aspects of distribution of tasks and proper utilization of resources to effectively respond to emergency situations.

TR111 Scent Theory II: 8 hours
Comprehensive discussion of scent theory and how canine’s olfactory senses are used in Search and Rescue. Discussion will include details on scent, atmospheric conditions and their relations to scent movement, and other topics related to scent theory. The class will delve into environmental variables, scent pooling, and a more in depth look at the biology of the canine’s nose.

TR112 Emergency Canine Medicine: 8 hours
An introduction to Canine First Aid, as well as more in depth methods for medical care of a canine used in Search and Rescue operations.

TR113 Computer for Search and Rescue: 8 hours
This class will introduce emergency responders to various software and computer methods to better manage and respond to emergency situations. Demonstrations of various software will be given as well as proper methods of record keeping using computers. The class will also discuss the needs of having back up methods to various computer software.

TR114 Technical Search: 32 hours
A Class designed to familiarize students with various technology used in technical search. The discussion will include, but not be limited to, acoustic listening devices, seismic detectors, search cameras, and underwater cameras. Students will become familiar with using the equipment and understand the role of each technology in various situations as well as troubleshooting and alternatives that may be available. The class will also discuss marking systems used in technical rescue.

TR201 Rope Rescue Level One ( Operations): 40 hours
A Class designed to be compliant with NFPA 1006 and OSHA requirements. Class designed to train on rope rescue operations as per NFPA 1006. The Class will discuss hazards, MA systems, Ascending and descending, belay, anchoring, and other topics.

TR202 Ice Rescue Level One ( Operations): 24 hours
Learn about Ice Rescue and the different forms that ice may present itself in. The class will cover land based rescue procedures, selection of personal protective equipment, SOPs, preplanning, and support functions for water based rescue operations. compliant with NFPA 1006 (Note: class is available only during the winter)

TR203 Trench Rescue Level One ( Operations): 24 hours
A Class designed to be compliant with NFPA 1006 and OSHA requirements. A comprehensive classroom and practical oriented Class teaching rules and regulations, different required shoring, soil classifications and hazard recognition. The Class will include hands on training and skill stations.

TR205 Emergency Shoring for Building Collapse Response: 24 hours
Techniques for temporarily shoring collapsed structures to facilitate search and rescue operations.

TR206 Search Management: 32 hours
A class designed to give the emergency responder the ability to manage search operations in a search and rescue environment. The class will discuss such topics as victim accountability, search strategy and tactics, resource allocation, search theory including statistical methodology, SOPs, record keeping, and other topics related to search management.

TR207 Rope Rescue Refresher: 16 hours
A Class to review demonstrate and further strengthen skills acquired in either Level One (Operations) or Level Two (Technician).

TR208 Basic Crane Rigging and Heavy Equipment: 8 hours
Basic theory for slinging and movement of loads, as well as a discussion of crane types, limitations of cranes, heavy equipment selection and safety around heavy equipment. The class will include a practical exercise in slinging of loads.

TR209 Rescue Officer: 32 hours
A comprehensive discussion of technical rescue, with emphasis on management, SOP’s, planning, strategy and tactics.

TR210 Vehicle Rescue/Machinery Rescue Level One (Operations): 40 hours
A comprehensive Class designed to be compliant with NFPA 1006 that incorporates hands on training and skill stations to provide the student with an understanding of proper techniques needed to handle the most common vehicle and machinery type rescue operations.  Hazard recognition and control, scene safety, stabilization, access, patient care consideration, hand and power operated tools, tool selection and maintenance disentanglement and removal techniques will all be explored and practiced in this intense hands-on program. This course also covers the hazards associated with SRS airbags and Hybrid Vehicle and how to mitigate them.

TR211 Swift Water Rescue Level One (Operations): 24 Hours
A comprehensive Class designed to be compliant with NFPA 1006 to provide students with both a theoretical and practical knowledge of the basics of swiftwater rescue. Students are trained in hazard recognition, equipment use, and basic shore and boat-based rescue techniques, as well as a wide variety of other skills.

TR301 Topics in Rope Rescue - A refresher: 8-16 hours
A customized refresher Class designed to be compliant with NFPA and OSHA requirements for Level One Operations or Level Two Technician Level Rope Rescue.

TR302 Topics in Confined Space Entry and Rescue - A refresher: 8-16 hours
A customized refresher Class designed to be compliant with NFPA and OSHA requirements for Operations Level One or Level Two Technician Level Confined Space Entry and Rescue.

TR303 Rope Rescue Level Two (Technician): 40 hours
A comprehensive Class designed to be compliant with NFPA 1006 and OSHA requirements. A comprehensive Class that incorporates hands on training and skill stations to provide the student with an understanding of rope rescue techniques and the equipment associated with safe practices of rope rescue. The Class will also address proper operational procedures and the use of specialized equipment. A significant emphasis will be placed on safety for both the rescuer and victim(s). This Class meets or exceeds NFPA and OSHA requirements. The student will be able to describe the hazards, classifications, equipment and procedures for rope rescue from Memory without assistance. The student will complete a written examination and pass/fail practical skill stations. (Prerequisite TR 201 or equivalent)

TR304 Ice Rescue Level Two (Technician): 24 hours
A comprehensive class about Ice Rescue and the different forms that ice may presents itself in. The class will cover land based and water based rescue procedures, selection of personal protective equipment, SOPs, preplanning, and support functions for water based rescue operations. The class will have hands on training and cover dive support operations as well. (Note: class is available only during the winter) (Prerequisite TR 202 or equivalent)

TR305 Trench Rescue Level Two (Technician): 16 hours
A comprehensive Class designed to be compliant with NFPA 1006 and OSHA requirements. A comprehensive Class that incorporates hands on training and skill stations to provide the student with an understanding of trench rescue techniques and the equipment associated with safe practices of trench rescue. The Class will also address proper operational procedures and the use of specialized equipment. A significant emphasis will be placed on safety for both the rescuer and victim(s). TR306 Topics in Trench Rescue - A refresher: 16 hours
A customized refresher Class designed to be compliant with NFPA and OSHA requirements for Level One Operations or Level Two Technician Level Trench Rescue.

TR307 Silo Entry and Rescue Technician for Emergency Responders: 40 hours
A comprehensive Class that incorporates hands on training and skill stations to provide the student with an understanding of atmospheric and physical hazards associated with silo entry. The Class will also address proper operational procedures and the use of specialized equipment. A significant emphasis will be placed on safety for both the rescuer and the victim(s). This Class meets or exceeds proposed NFPA and present OSHA requirements. The student will be able to describe the hazards, classifications, equipment and procedures for entering a silo from Memory without assistance the student will complete a written examination and pass/fail practical skill stations. (Note: prerequisite TR 300 and TR 303)

TR309 Crane Rigging and Heavy Equipment: 24 hours
Advanced theory for slinging and movement of loads, as well as a discussion of crane types, limitations of cranes, heavy equipment selection, calculation of weights and safety around heavy equipment. The class will include a practical exercise in slinging of loads as well as use of heavy equipment and cranes.

TR310 Medical Considerations during a Technical Rescue: 40 hours
A discussion and hands on training on such topics as crush syndrome, compartment syndrome, environmental medical emergencies, advanced intubations techniques, medication therapy, IV therapy and in-field amputations

TR311 Vehicle Rescue/Machinery Rescue Level Two (Technician): 40 hours
A comprehensive Class designed to be compliant with NFPA 1006 that incorporates hands on training and skill stations to provide the student with an understanding of various situations involving heavy equipment, trucks, buses and various machinery entrapment type rescues and advanced stabilization. (Prerequisites TR 210 or equivalent).

TR312 Swift Water Rescue Level Two (Technician): 24 hours
A comprehensive Class designed to be compliant with NFPA 1006 developing and practicing Swiftwater rescue skills. Learned in Level One emphasis on self-rescue skills and covers Advanced Swiftwater Techniques.
(Prerequisites TR 211 or equivalent).




TR400 Confined Space Advanced Entry and Rescue: 24 hours
A Class designed to be compliant with NFPA and OSHA requirements. An advanced Class designed to teach techniques and problem solving skills for advanced Complex and Unusual Confined Space Rescues. (Prerequisites TR 300 or equivalent).

TR401 Advanced Rope Rescue Techniques: 24 hours
Comprehensive Class on advanced rope rescue techniques including problem solving skill building using practical exercises that highlight unusual rescue situations as well as complex problems. (Prerequisite TR 303 or equivalent).

A comprehensive Class that incorporates hands on training and class room lectures to provide the student with an understanding of atmospheric and physical hazards associated with confined space entry. TR606 Silo Entry and Rescue Basic for Industry: 32 hours

A significant emphasis will be placed on safety for both the rescuer and the victim(s). This Class meets or exceeds OSHA requirements. The student will complete a written examination and be asked to demonstrate their knowledge of the skills and techniques taught at the various work stations. TR609 Silo Entry and rescue Advanced for Industry: 16 hours
A comprehensive Class that incorporates hands on training and skill stations to provide the student with an understanding of Air Systems, Advanced Rope Procedures and Complex Scenarios. A significant emphasis will be placed on safety for both the rescuer and the victim(s). This Class meets or exceeds OSHA requirements. The student will complete a written examination and be asked to demonstrate their knowledge of the skills and techniques taught at the various work stations. Students will have an opportunity to work in steel, concrete and wood spaces.

TR610 Fall Protection: 8 hours
An OSHA compliant Class deigned to teach safety procedures in work environments that are conducted at elevated heights requiring fall protection equipment.

TR1000 An Introduction to program development under NFPA 1006 and NFPA 1670: 8 hours
A Class designed for managers to better understand NFPA 1006 and 1670 as it pertains to requirements in training as well as consultation in program development to meet requirements under NFPA 1006 and NFPA 1670.

TR1001 Team Development: 16 hours
A Class designed for managers to organize and utilize resources for the development of a technical rescue team. The Class will outline the structure of the team, SOP development, recruitment, liability and other management topics.

TR1002 Simulations in Disaster for Training Purposes: 8 hours
A comprehensive Class for the setup and implementation of a disaster scenario for technical rescue training, as well as incorporation of table top training techniques. Topics will include modern techniques for simulation, assessment, and accountability.

TR1003 Consultation for Team Evaluation and Review: 8 hours

TR1004 Canine Rope Rescue: 16 hours
This class teaches the student to train a canine to be moved on a rope system as well as safe rigging techniques for the handling of a canine while in a harness and being moved on a rope system. The class will discuss techniques for calming canines while on rope as well as other topics related to the movement of canines on rope systems, including medical concerns.

TR1005 Rescue Engineering Operations: 32 hours
